A response to the loss of my brother-in-law and friend, Dean, the 7 Series explores the condition and genetics of cystic fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis is often called an invisible disease. It's invisible in the sense that you can't see what's going on inside the body and it primarily does not exhibit any external signs other than bouts of coughing and shortness of breath.

Chelsea Gagnon, who lives with CF, explained:

“Bringing awareness to rare invisible diseases is important because unless people know about them, how are they going to donate to fund research and help patients? Another thing is that it will help people become aware that not all disabilities are visible. There are a lot of people shaming those who look “apparently” healthy for using aids or handicap parking passes or sitting on public transit, etc. If we could get the word out then, people will be more sensitive!”

The position of the CF gene (CFTR) is indicated on the sculpture by the copper coloured band on one of the long arms (an aesthetic decision, as in reality the gene is in the same position on both long arms).
