Blockhead is said to have been a nickname for Leonardo Fibonacci, an Italian mathematician, credited with popularising our modern number system in the Latin-speaking world.
However, he is better remembered for the Fibonacci sequence of numbers (also the golden section or mean) that appears in nature in forms such as branching in trees, arrangement of leaves on a stem, an uncurling fern and the arrangement of a pine cone.
‘Blockhead’ incorporates the golden section (the curve on the face and the rectangular sequence on the base) along with Brahmi Script, one of the oldest writing systems found in India on the Indian Stone base, to reference the fact that the sequence has been attributed in part to the Indian Mathematics of Pingala dating back to 200 BC.
